Point To Communicate Booklets Aid Many Stroke Victims in Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and at home.

Point to Communicate booklets are a compact, user friendly communication tool for people who can’t talk nor write due to stroke, illness, disease, accident, surgery, or age or may be hard of hearing.

Dec. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- According to the American Stroke Foundation, "Stroke is the number one cause of adult disability and the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Although stroke affects people of all ages, genders and races, people over 55, males and African-Americans are at higher risk for stroke."  The CureResearch.com statistics for the incidence of stroke states that the "Incidence Rate: (is) approx. 1 in 453 or 0.22% or 600,000 people in USA."
Arlene Disbrow, East Randolph, VT originally invented this system for her father, a Korean Veteran, who had Parkinson's (like Michael J. Fox) but developed complications and lost his voice.  She has since had many family situations where her system has made communication accessible where there was none before like her aunt who had a stroke or her friend who is hard of hearing.
Many speech and language pathologists have stated that they are so over worked and generally do not see their patient until a month to three months after the event that left the patient unable to speak. Point to Communicate booklets fills this need. The booklets can also be used by family, caregivers and professionals to communicate with their patient and the patient with anyone.  It’s easy to use, simply point to the appropriate picture to convey essential needs, and more.  Booklets are available for Home Health, Nursing Home, and Hospital environments.
“These booklets are brilliant. They work for our veteran patients and even for those who hesitate to try something new. The booklets are low tech making it so simple for my patients and our staff to communicate clearly. And the price is considerably lower than most communication aids we have used. Thank you for a great product.”  S. Costas, Chief of Audiology and Speech
“An outstandingly versatile tool that covers a very broad array of needful and necessary communications – a big boost to one’s health and also dignity.”

Thank you." P. Kelly, RN, VNA
