In recent tests, ICSA Labs evaluated multiple Sourcefire 3D Sensor appliances, utilizing Snort Certified Rules provided by the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team (VRT). This continued testing and certification by ICSA Labs’ highly regarded network IPS testing program reaffirms Sourcefire’s commitment to investing the resources necessary to provide its customers with leading protection against today’s most menacing threats. ICSA Labs network IPS testing focuses on real world security, threat detection, performance and administrative requirements simultaneously rather than in isolation, providing tangible validation of Sourcefire’s security capabilities.
“To meet internal purchasing requirements, many IT departments require independent, third-party testing and validation that security solutions meet some of today’s toughest security standards,” said Jack Walsh, intrusion detection and prevention program manager at ICSA Labs. “ICSA Labs’ testing methodology provides IPS customers with the confidence that the Sourcefire 3D System offers the advanced detection and protection that customers need to protect their networks and their businesses from today’s complex threats.”
ICSA Labs bases its evaluation criteria largely on input from a consortium of industry experts. As a best practice that ICSA Labs engages in, consortium input helps to reduce potential biases found in proprietary testing methodologies. Achieving ICSA Labs certification requires a 100 percent passing score; partial passes are not allowed. Additionally, ICSA Labs does not provide vendors with the exploits and exploit packet captures used in testing, which means that the network IPS vendor has to create the necessary protections on its own to earn certification. For these reasons and others, ICSA Labs is viewed by many as offering some of the most comprehensive, rigorous third-party IPS testing on the market.
Based on Snort and leveraging the dedicated open source community, the Sourcefire 3D System provides users with enhanced network visibility and the industry’s first Adaptive IPS technology for increased protection from emerging threats. “ICSA Labs has a long history of delivering quality test results, and customers trust ICSA Labs because its rigorous tests are based on real-word criteria,” said Tom Ashoff, senior vice president of engineering at Sourcefire. “Achieving ICSA Labs certification for the 3D System product line highlights Sourcefire’s commitment to delivering security solutions that provide users with the leading IPS protection they require.”
