Dec. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- For what some claim to be approximately 20 years in the making, the highway from Dominical to Quepos is set for completion in the coming weeks.

First proposed in 1962 by then President Francisco Orlich (1962-1966), the Costanera Coastal Highway has faced many setbacks and delays.

In 2003 the plan for progress was kicked in to overdrive when President Abel Pacheco (2002-2006) signed a deal worth $60 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and then combined that with Costa Rica's own $22 million.

The biggest hurdle according to MOPT was the section of highway from Quepos to Dominical where acquiring property rights to widen and detour the new highway, was proving difficult.

Although many doubted this projects completion, we are now entering the final days and that priceless photo when road crews finally connect asphalt to asphalt at the bridge over the river Baru in Dominical will certainly be a moment to remember.

The completion of this project also raises hopes of many Costa Rica property (http://www.costaricapropertysite.com) owners along this route whereas purchases were made through the years on the promise of a paved route directly to Manuel Antonio and Quepos and in turn increasing attention to the area a ten fold.

However, with the timing, this may be a short lived dream considering the current state of the world economic markets. With such high expectations when this road was to be completed, many property owners preemptively increased their asking prices anticipating that the market would follow when the road was completed.  An unanticipated economic crisis changed everything.  This does not mean that there are no deals to be made, quite the contrary actually.
