FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE
“Crash test Dummies can’t determine human behavior”
Tacoma Washington—December 15, 2009 – Shawn Briggs a Personal Injury Lawyer in Tacoma Washington wants you to understand the ramifications of being distracted while driving a vehicle.
“We rely on a Dummy in crash tests for our personal safety when operating a vehicle, said Shawn Briggs of Briggs and Briggs.” He went on to say, “The problem is that during a crash test the Dummy isn’t texting or taking any phone calls.” Briggs says we use other sources to learn about things that can protect us from personal injury or a fatal outcome.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distraction from the primary task of driving could pres¬ent a serious and potentially deadly danger. In 2008, 5,870 people lost their lives and an estimated 515,000 people were injured in police-reported crashes in which at least one form of driver distraction was reported on the crash report.
When you learn that the age group with the greatest proportion of dis¬tracted drivers was the under-20 age group—16 percent of all under-20 drivers in fatal crashes were reported to have been distracted while driving. Shawn Briggs said, “We have become slaves to our cell phones.” We all know the pervasive use of cell phones to talk or text. Like the experiments of conditional reflexes conducted by Ivan Pavlov, when the bell rings we jump. Not only do we take the call or text while driving, we set priorities on our lives. In that situation answering the phone becomes top priority while our welfare goes right out the window.
Shawn Briggs wants to send a message to the world without using his phone to call or text you. That message is “UNPLUG WHEN DRIVING” and focus on the road and the other drivers who are texting or using their cell phones. If you don’t care about your own life then think about the lives of others you might harm or even take. When Shawn Briggs was asked why he was sending this message out as it is counter intuitive to his business model, he replied “I can’t think of a better way to lose business”.
