For Jews, Xmas time can be difficult, even alienating. Fortunately, a new option
is coming to West Hartford, CT that has many laughing out loud.
It's called Moo Jew Comedy, and it's Jewish comedy plus dinner at a Chinese restaurant at Xmas time. The dinner/comedy show debuts at the Szechuan Tokyo restaurant in West Hartford, CT, in partnership with Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford.
“What can I tell you, I’m a traditionalist,”
“When economic times get tough, it’s important to support each other, and to celebrate the season,” said Anne Danaher, executive director of Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford. “We invite the whole community to join us at Moo Jew Comedy.”
Lorber named the event Moo Jew Comedy, after deciding against other names, including “Oy of the Beholder,” “Not So Silent Night,” and “So, Jew Want Some Chinese?”
All-star comedians dominate the evening:
Ophira Eisenberg (New York City) from Comedy Central, VH-1, E! Channel, Oxygen Network, CTV, and the hit tour “Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad.”
Myq Kaplan (New York City) from the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central, Caroline’s, NY Comedy Contest (winner 2009), Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival. He performs Dec. 27 in CT.
Dan Shaki (New York City) won honors from The Gilda's Club Laugh Off, Page International Screenwriting Awards, and Friars Club.
Jason P. Lorber (Burlington, VT) from Sirius Radio, DemocracyFest, dozens of TV commercials, WCAX-TV, and many other venues. He performs Dec. 24-26 in CT.
Tickets are $49 for a 4-course dinner (vegetarian options available), and “all the comedy you can eat.” Price includes a donation to the Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford, tax and tip, which Lorber’s mother calls “such a deal.” Non-Jews are welcome. Especially loud ones.
Discernible Jews and gentiles have four nights to choose from, namely Dec. 24-27. Dinner starts “promptly at 7:30pm-ish,”
