Dec. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- With endless presents to buy, parties to organize, and cringe-inducing Christmas dos to attend, it’s no wonder the holiday season can be the most stressful time of year.

But it doesn’t have to be – thousands of EFL teachers who have teaching jobs abroad will be enjoying a Christmas full of adventures in sunnier climes, and free of turkey, tacky decorations and annoying relatives.

Robert Clarke, 22, from Derbyshire, who has a TEFL job in Indonesia, will be heading for the island paradise of Bali during his 2-week long Christmas break with all the other teachers from his school in Gading Serpong – swapping tinsel and mince pies for beaches and cool beer. Aside from relaxing, Robert plans to go horseback trekking along beaches and through Balinese villages, climb to the top of Mount Agung and even try his hand at white water rafting.

While people such as Robert, with TEFL jobs in exotic destinations across the world, will miss out on the family festivities and food traditionally associated with the holiday season, their ‘alternative’ Christmases will likely be made more memorable and exciting by the fact that they’re away from home.

Robert said: “Everything I am used to about Christmas is not here. But I am going to enjoy Christmas in a different way, sat on a beach with a beer to my side a book in my hand and a coconut by my other side!”

Lesley Voss, from Cheltenham, who teaches English in Italy, said “This will be my first Christmas away from home too, but Italy loves Christmassy things and there are tress, lights, tinsel, mince pies, everything. It does feel weird not being with family, but I'll be celebrating in the same way: champagne for breakfast!”

Teaching English abroad isn’t just for those who have lots of teaching experience or degrees in linguistics: any fluent English speaker can complete a recognised TEFL course, such as those offered by i-to-i, to open up a whole world (literally!) of opportunities. The global demand for English teachers is such that there are a massive 20,000 TEFL jobs posted online every month, making it relatively easy for anyone with a sense of adventure to start teaching abroad.

As well as the wealth of TEFL jobs out there, which teachers can apply for independently, i-to-i can also help people find teaching jobs abroad with their hassle-free TEFL job placement service. It helps qualified EFL teachers start teaching abroad by finding them contracts at schools all over the world, everywhere from China and the Czech Republic to Indonesia and Ecuador.
