Foodies Shun Delia And Turn To Online Friends For Festive Recipe Inspiration

With Christmas around the corner, and the country still in recession, home-cooks from the UK and Ireland are turning to their online friends, rather than celebrity chefs, for festive recipe inspiration.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 15, 2009 -
Recent research conducted by recipe sharing website Allrecipes.co.uk (www.allrecipes.co.uk) revealed that people are three times more likely to look for recipes created by other home-cooks than those by celebrity chefs or cookbook authors. Reflecting this trend, Allrecipes.co.uk – which was launched only 18-months ago – is now outpacing Jamie Oliver and Delia Smith online as the second most popular food site in the UK*.

The online recipe sharing phenomenon is being fuelled by consumers’ increasing familiarity with social networking sites such as Facebook. Allrecipes.co.uk has recognised this trend and enables its members to interact with each other in a variety of ways, including: following their favourite home-cooks, making online friends and connecting directly to receive regular updates on recipes, tweaks and photos.

The increasing popularity of the site may challenge Delia’s supremacy at this year’s Christmas dinner table with members of Allrecipes.co.uk flocking a host of favourite Christmas recipes.  The top ranking Christmas recipes are:

1. Christmas Cake: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/6281/amazing-christmas-cak...
2. Easy Cranberry Sauce: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/1872/easy-cranberry-sauce....
3. Shortbread Biscuits: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/4569/brown-sugar-shortbrea...

5. Gingerbread House: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/6536/gingerbread-for-a-gingerbread-   house.aspx

*Statistics taken from Nielson, September 2009. Allrecipes.co.uk is ranked as the second most popular food site with 685,000 unique users. Jamieoliver.com is ranked 10th with 495,000 unique users and Deliaonline.com is ranked 13th with 386,000 unique users.
