Dec. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Personalized Family Ornament gifted on Dec. 14, 2009, to President Barak Obama's family by the Sharff family of Ornaments by Occassion.com, encourages uniting families and supporting family traditions by the use of personalized family ornaments for the official White House Christmas Tree located in the White House Blue Room.

The official White House Christmas Tree for 2009 resides at the residence of President Barak Obama, wife, Michelle Obama and children, Malia Obama and Shasha Obama in the White House Blue Room and has, since 1961, had a themed motif at the descretion of the First Lady of the United States. In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kenedy began the tradition of selecting a theme for the White House Christmas Tree by decorating with a Nutcracker motif. This years theme chosen by Michelle Obama, our First Lady, is Reflect, Rejoice and Renew.

Currently 800 ornaments from previous tenants of the White House, have been redecorated per our First Lady's instructions, to pay tribute to a favorite local landmark with currently no attention being given to any personalized ornaments for the Obama family themselves and the creation and blending of a personalized touch helpful in a home setting and part of our cultural traditions.

Ornaments seem to have their beginnings in the 15th Century in Germany, however, much mystery surrounds the traditional beginnings.  The first ornaments acknowledged consisted of nuts and fruits.  Later they evolved into other things such as candy, paper streamers, popcorn strings and little metal bits.

Over time, decorations have grown to personalized ornaments and represents love, happiness, harmony and the renewal of light and sunshine which may have been created originally to help society through the darkness and bleakness of the winter months which explains the glittery, shiny decorations typically used over the years.

First Lady, Michelle Obama, announced on December 2, 2009, that as part of this years holiday focus, there will be a concentration of effort by local food banks and the Toys for Tots program. Due to our own American Children experiencing hunger, an estimated 1.1 million, there is a new program to be implemented called 'Feed a Neighbor'. This program will provide all Americans with resources to help combat hunger in their own communities. This new program definitely reflects America's greatness as a Country and expresses our great First Lady's holiday theme of Reflect, Rejoice and Renew.

In accordance with these views, it is appropriate and definitely such a very small thank you on the behalf of the American public that the Scharff family, whose main business is personalized ornaments, created and designed a personalized ornament especially for the Obama family to give their White House Christmas Tree a touch of home for themselves and continue with the American tradition of personalized ornaments, many which were hand crafted at the time this tradition actually began.
