In 2009H1, Chinese basic chemical raw material manufacturing industry began to recover slightly. The production YOY decrease rate dropped and the benefit decline was relieved. Chinese caustic soda production was 9.1480 million tons, reducing by 4.90% YOY. The growth rate fell by 17.65% YOY. Chinese ethylene production reached 4.8040 million tons, dropping by 6.80% YOY. The growth rate is declined by 8.89% YOY.
By 2009Q2, the ex-factory price index of Chinese chemical raw material and chemical product manufacturing industry continued to fall. In June 2009, the ex-factory price index dropped by 33.86 compared with the highest point in August 2008.
In 2009H1, the profitability of Chinese basic chemical raw material manufacturing industry saw an obvious decrease. From January to May 2009, the total profit was RMB 7.264 billion, reducing by RMB 11.112 billion YOY.
On June 5th, 2009, Standardization Administration of China, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China issued Suggestions on Implementing Adjustment and Revitalization Plan of Ten Major Industries and Strengthening Standardization Work. It explicitly indicates that the technical support role of the standardization should be fully displayed in the adjustment and revitalization of ten major industries including the petrochemical industry. Accordingly, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association declared to improve and complete the chemical industrial standard system and enhance its discourse right through joining the international standard formulation.
