A group of armed robbers intruded into the residence of Weekly Blitz editor at 2:30 am on December 15, 2009. They hand tied the housekeeper named Bazlu and was asking for the key to enter the apartment of the editor at Dhaka’s Uttara residential area. Hearing the hue and cries of the housekeeper, younger brother of Weekly Blitz editor and Executive Editor of the newspaper Sohail Choudhury woke up the editor and immediately Uttara police station was informed of the incident and police help was sought to nab the armed robber [intruders], who were still inside the house.
Police came to the spot around 30 minutes later, while the intruders fled the spot by jumping through the boundary wall of the house.
The robbers took away the mobile phone and some cash from the house keeper and injured him with barber's knife. The housekeeper is seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital with bleeding, after police came to the spot.
Law and order situation has greatly deteriorated in Bangladesh for past several months and various forms of criminal activities are continuing in the country as well the Capital city.
At the latest incident, family members and editor of the Weekly Blitz are feeling extremely security threats. It may be mentioned here that, despite a resolution passed in the United States Congress in 2007 [HR 64], military backed interim government in Bangladesh withdrew police protection from the residence of the Weekly Blitz editor.
Weekly Blitz editor notified the matter with the higher officials in country's law enforcing agencies through mobile phone text message right after the incident. Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury is seeking all out help and cooperation from his friends around the world in putting pressure on Bangladesh government in restoring the police protection forthwith.
