Built on a cutting-edge Web platform developed by Ellington CMS, a Lawrence, KS based company whose software powers some of the most well regarded news Web sites in the country, KCFreePress.com will fill a gap in the local media landscape, said KCFreePress.com Managing Editor Jay Senter.
“We know that people in their 20s and 30s are turning to the Web as their primary source for news and information in growing numbers, and that trend is only going to accelerate in the coming years,” said Senter. “To date, Kansas City hasn’t had a media outlet that has approached reporting with a ‘Web-first’
The site’s editorial product will be presented in a multimedia format with content produced by Kansas City area staff members and contributors.
“We’re going to play host to a range of voices on a range of topics,” said Editor-in-Chief Lucas Wetzel. “From Mark Smith, the author of the popular crime blog Midtown Miscreant, to personal trainer Erin Heide, to published cookbook author Emily Farris, when you come to KCFreePress.com, you’re going to get a mix of stories that capture the fabric of life here.”
The site will publish content between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
