Located near Metro center, hidden from the bright light of downtown lights, is a warehouse filled with bags and boxes of food. Or to most of us who’ve seen the white “donation boxes”, we recognize this warehouse as Second Harvest Food Bank.
So on this Wednesday night, instead of being curled up by the fire place, BRS was in the midst of sorting bags, boxes, and bins. Besides the BRS staff, students, family members, and individuals all joined forces this season to make sure the hungry mouths of Nashville had food on their table this Holiday.
Sharing only the spirit of giving and second Harvest; the students, families, and business professionals all joined together with a purpose. With this common ground a tremendous amount of work was accomplished. Everything from sorting good food to food categories was completed. Even items like the recycling were finished.
BRS was able to find their way to give back this season, and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven’t volunteered yet this holiday, the BRS staff highly recommends it. The Food Sorting was “time well spent”, as BRS President Paul Reed stated after the event “and the whole staff looks forward to contributing more this upcoming year”.
