Support Resort To Match Up to $15,000 in Loans to Fight Poverty

Dec. 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Support Resort (www.supportresort.com), an outsourced web development and customer support provider, has launched a campaign in which the company will match up to $15,000 in loans made through its Kiva lending team before December 20, 2009.
       
Kiva (www.kiva.org) is a non-profit organization that works to alleviate poverty around the globe by enabling people to contribute as little as $25 towards loans to entrepreneurs battling poverty.  These small loans can help struggling entrepreneurs break the poverty cycle.  Loans are generally issued for a 6-12 month period, with a repayment rate of approximately 98%.
       
Kiva utilizes its partnerships with microfinance institutions in 49 countries to connect individual lenders with entrepreneurs, an approach the New York Times dubbed "Do-it-yourself foreign aid" (New York Times, 23 Aug 2009).  Kiva posted its first seven loans in March 2005 and since that time over 600,000 Kiva lenders have contributed loans in excess of $105 million.
       
Support Resort's Kiva lending team, "Companies That Care", has been established with a view to engaging businesses in the fight against poverty.
       
Support Resort spokesperson, Nicole Adams, says that membership of the group is open to everyone. "We would like to see Companies That Care develop into a community of businesses, organisations and individual supporters who share the common goal of getting businesses active in alleviating poverty through microfinance," Adams said.
       
"Many companies have cash sitting in the bank in low-interest accounts.  What we are suggesting is that they take a small portion of that cash and lend it to people in need.  We feel that forgoing the interest on the cash is a small price to pay for the benefit it can bring to the world's poor."
       
Support Resort will match all loans made through "Companies That Care" before 5pm on December 20, 2009 (US CST) up to a maximum total amount of $15,000.  The total matched loan amount will be distributed starting on December 21, 2009 using Kiva's auto-lending facility.
