Fire and Burn Hazards Cause of Recall on Lowes Gas Grills

Dec. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, LG Sourcing Inc of North Carolina, an importer of the grills, is recalling approximately 663,000 of these grills in the US.  

Irregular flames may be the result of deteriorated burners, which is the cause of the recall.  In some models, the lid may also catch on fire.  40 reports of fires caused by deteriorating burners and 23 reports of lids catching on fire have been received by the company, with at least one person receiving an injury to the eye that required surgery.  The company has also received a few reports of burns to the arms, hands and face that were minor.

Lucas Innovation Inc of China is the manufacturer of these grills, which were sold at Lowes retail stores all over the United States between September of 2008 and May of this year at an average of $225.  1,700 of these gas grills are also being recalled by Health Canada, and both propane and natural gas grills are included in this recall.  The SLG series and Perfect Flame brand are the gas grills that are being recalled, and are made of steel, with a painted black or gray metal exterior.

Consumers have been asked to stop using the gas grills immediately by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and to get free replacement lids and burners.  Free replacement lids are available for the SLG2007A, SLG2007B, SLG2007BN and SLG2008A models only.

Defective products that may catch fire put the user at risk of burn injuries, such as toasters, hairdryers, curling irons, stoves and other electronic appliances.  This is often caused due to malfunctioning circuitry or defective parts, which a consumer may not be aware of.  This often leads to fires and burns to the consumer that can be very serious.
