FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 10, 2009 -
With the many advances in addiction recovery over the past few decades, holistic treatment has been one of the less publicized. Until recently, many people had never heard of holistic or alternative treatment, but that is all changing.

Holistic treatment combines all aspects of a patient’s needs. It teaches that psychological, physical and social needs should all be taken into account and seen as a whole when treating an addict. By doing this, addicts are allowed a more completely recovery by addressing all the issues that surround their addiction.

Holistic Treatment History

Holistic treatment dates back almost 5,000 years ago and originated in China and India. These alternative methods did not reach the Western world until the 20th century. Today, about 98.3 percent of rehab centers offer alternative programs according to the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services. These programs include acupuncture, social services, mentoring, meditation, massage therapy, yoga and much more.

Holistic Treatment Conference

Foundations Recovery Network’s (FRN) conference, “Holistic Treatment: Changing the Way We Look at Recovery- Body, Mind & Spirit,” will focus on the aspects of holistic treatment that affect substance addiction and recovery.

Many speakers will be focusing on the nutritional aspect of holistic addiction treatment. This involves the belief that we need certain balances of protein, vitamins and other nutrients to help our bodies reach maximum energy levels and overall physical and emotion health. Presentations will show that by improving diet and adding targeted neuro-nutrient therapies can dramatically improve recovery rates by repairing the addictive brain.

Conference objectives include:
•Recognizing the spectrum of care included in a holistic approach
•Identifying specific studies supporting holistic approaches to dual diagnosis treatment
•Locating additional clinical resources to implement holistic approaches
•Learning nutritional strategies to improve treatment outcomes

The last 25 years has seen an explosion of research linking neurotransmitter imbalances to addictive, mood and behavioral disorders. This conference will present a 21st century approach to dual diagnosis treatment that integrates crucial body, mind and spirit repair with established treatment strategies.
