1. Use a quality non-caustic cleaner to remove any grease or oils prior to sanding, grinding or otherwise removing the rust. This will eliminate the oils/greases before they can be mechanically ground into the metal while grinding or sanding.
2. Remove all the rust blisters from the surface using a metal scraper, wire brush or other. These rust blisters harbor moisture and will keep rusting even though a quality rust converter is applied.
3. Remove about 1/8” of any paint around rust spots. Scrape enough paint back to show unrusted metal. Rust likes to work its way under paint and stay hidden until you scrape it off.
4. Lightly sand any rough rust to ensure an even coating of rust converter.
5. Rinse prepped metal with appropriate solvent to remove any residual dust, loose paint, etc.
6. Apply an even coat of RCx427 Rust Converter to the surface using a foam brush, paint sprayer, roller, paintbrush, etc. Coat all the rusted areas and apply to painted areas at least ½ from rusted areas.
7. Apply a second coat for maximum protection or if area is exposed to the rain, snow or moisture.
8. Topcoat the primer surface with your favorite quality paint within 2-6 hours to complete the job.
