3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announcedthat Rodenstock the world leader in spectacle lenses and frames has switched to H3C enterprise networking solutions to link its data centres in Germany and its facilities in 80 countries worldwide in a deal worth $1.3 million. Rodenstock selected H3C switches because of their impressive price/performance ratio and because their compatibility enabled them to integrate seamlessly into a multi-vendor network.
Rodenstock selected H3C® S7500 and H3C S5100 high-performance enterprise LAN switches for its two redundant data centres in Munich and Regen, Germany. H3C S3600 stackable, scalable switches distribute the network to approximately 6,500 ports in its Munich headquarters and to production and sales bases in the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. The open standards-based H3C switches thus ensure secure connections across Rodenstock’s entire data and voice network.
Rodenstock is in the process of gradually replacing all its network hardware worldwide to simplify management and increase redundancy and reliability. The adoption of a single, consistent configuration based on H3C components is already making communications more efficient, and is being rolled out to Rodenstock’s sites globally to improve internal communication for the internationally-
Kurt Holfelder, Group IT Manager of Networks at Rodenstock, says that, besides the impressive price/performance ratio, the market position of 3Com and H3C was crucial. "This guarantees that a long-term project such as the conversion of Rodenstock’s networks goes smoothly now and in the future," he says.
Based in Munich, Germany, Rodenstock is a world leader in spectacle lenses and frames. The company is active in 80 countries worldwide. In financial year 2007, Rodenstock recorded sales of € 396 million.
