NEWBURY PARK, CALIF.--Teens participating in the Miller Family YMCA Youth & Government Program will be serving up a full pancake breakfast on Saturday, December 12 to help raise money for their trip to the program's annual Sacramento conference. The pancake breakfast will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Miller YMCA (320 Via Las Brisas) in the Paraiso Shopping Center in Newbury Park.
Youth & Government teens in grades 9 through 12 learn about various California State government issues and county roles in preparation for the Model Legislature and Court conference in Sacramento. "'Democracy must be learned by each generation' is the motto of the Youth & Government program," says Ryan Batchelor, the YMCA advisor to the group. "During the program, teens learn about ways how to solve issues through legislative and judicial processes. It's a great experience and helps kids not only learn about government, but to problem solve, work as a team and become confident in presenting ideas to their peers."
The program culminates in Sacramento, where over 3000 student delegates gather in February for five days. During the conference, the government makes way for the student delegates to use the historic halls and assembly chambers of our State Capitol and Supreme Court.
The cost of the breakfast is $5 per person. Kids three years and under are free. Tickets are available now at the YMCA and on the day of the breakfast.
