Dec. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Sanctuary Stables Interscholastic Equestrian Team joined forces with SUNY Morrisville to host their first Interscholastic Equestrian Association horse show on October 17th 2009. The IEA requires that all teams host their own shows after their first year as a team and the Sanctuary Stables team decided that they wanted their first show to be a fundraiser for the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament. When team coaches Nicolle Madonna and Meg Maloney approached Lisa Ecklund and Erin Eldridge of SUNY Morrisville they were met with quick support of the idea.
“SUNY Morrisville stepping up to the plate to offer a place to host our show and use of the horses was extremely generous. The facility is top notch and the horses are safe and high quality. It was the perfect place to hold an IEA show,” said show manager, Meg Maloney.
John Madden was invited to serve as judge for the day and Manlius Pebble Hill, Sanctuary Stables, Lake Effect Equestrian Team, Heritage Stables Equestrian Team and Horse Heaven Equestrian Team all made the trip to Morrisville for the show.
“It was great to get the opportunity to judge. The riders were well prepared and I was impressed with the skill level of riders,” said John Madden.
The courses were designed by Lisa Ecklund and the horses were perfectly prepared by the SUNY Morrisville students. Sanctuary stables team parents Allison Doherty served as paddock master and Jackie Diehl served as the announcer. Emily Zientek of the Grier School in PA served as the show steward. Many local businesses stepped up to support the show with donations and sponsorships, including The Show Trunk, Jack’s Turf Goods, Mitchell’s Tack Store, Manlius True Value, Parkway Pizza, Christian Brothers Academy, Pasquale’s Slice of Italy and Raphael’s Men’s Shop.
“It was a great experience for our riders to learn about hosting a show, but I think the best part was that they were able to be a part of giving something back to a great not-for-profit that we all hope stays in the central New York community. Thanks to Lisa Ecklund and Erin Eldridge’s help, we are already looking ahead to our 2010 IEA show,” team head coach Nicolle Madonna.
