Follow on Google News | Nanobiotechnology and Food Technology Theme for 2010 Biotechnology ShowcaseThe Capital Area Biotechnology Partnership 2010 Biotechnology Showcase will take place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 26, 2010 at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. The theme for the free event is Nanotechnology and Food Technology.
The annual event brings together industry, educators as well as high school and college students. The free event features hands-on experiments, poster presentation, workshops, panel discussions, career fair, vendor exhibits and other presentations. With its program of lectures, expert discussions, presentations and networking opportunities, the Biotechnology Showcase has become a flagship event for students, educators, and industry. The 2010 Biotechnology Showcase will take place at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s Academic Center, located at 326 Market Street. Teachers bringing groups of at least 20 students will be awarded a free laboratory kit and are eligible for a $100 travel stipend to attend the workshop as well. The Capital Area Biotechnology Partnership (CABP) is a 2+2+2 Workforce Leadership Grant by the Department of Community and Economic Development. The focus of the presentation is discussing how partnerships between high-schools, community colleges and universities help facilitate a seamless transition from high school to the workforce. The CABP provides students exit points at any two-year interval with skills that make them more employable than their peers. This is achieved through internships and job-shadowing opportunities at biotechnology institutions. Additional opportunities provided are a summer camp based on nanobiotechnology, and mentoring and retention support via a Biotechnology Club and tutoring.
