Dec. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- WILLISTON, VT - Officials from Julbo, Inc. are pleased to announce the addition of American freestyle skiing and extreme sports legend Glen Plake to its stable of athletes.

Julbo has been setting the industry standard in lens technology since the company’s inception over 120 years ago. The addition of Glen Plake embodies Julbo’s heritage in performance optics for mountain sports. As an international ambassador of the brand, Plake will help increase Julbo’s visibility in the ski and snowboard markets in the U.S.

“Julbo is thrilled to welcome Glen Plake to its athlete roster,” said Nick Yardley, CEO of Julbo, Inc. “Julbo has been expanding its collection of goggles over the past two seasons, but now with Glen’s involvement in product development, and even more technical goggles in the pipeline for Fall 2010, the potential for Julbo’s goggle range in the U.S. is huge.”

“One of the things I love about Julbo is that it is a traditional mountain company, with a true mountain culture,” Plake said. “Being an alpine-related brand with a longstanding history sets Julbo apart from other sunglass and goggle companies, in my opinion. The fact that Julbo is rooted in the alpine community means a lot to me.”

Plake spends most of the winter in Chamonix, France, which is the mecca of freeskiing and in the backyard of Julbo’s corporate headquarters, located about 90 miles away in a small town in the Jura Mountains. Glen has visited Julbo’s headquarters and factory, and he will be involved in product development on Julbo’s goggles.

Currently, Julbo is supporting Plake’s Down Home Ski Tour in the Northwest United States. Plake and his wife, Kimberly, are traveling in their motor home, hitting nearly every ski area in the Pacific Northwest. The Down Home Tour is an authentic skiing event for Plake to connect and ski with locals at their home mountain, and to thank fans who have supported him as a professional skier over the years.

“The Down Home Ski Tour is the type of initiative that completely fits with the Julbo spirit: creating direct contact with end users and sharing experiences,” Yardley explains. The Down Home Tour can be followed at Powder.com (http://www.powdermag-community.com/profiles/blogs/downhom...).

Julbo is gearing up to significantly expand its range of goggles for Fall 2010. The company will look to capitalize on the tremendous success of the Revolution (http://www.julbousa.com/goggles/revolution) goggle with Julbo’s Zebra photochromic lens. The Zebra lens transitions from category 2 (low light-below treeline) to category 4 (intense sunlight-above treeline/glacier) in less than 22 seconds. No other brand offers a lens that has such a wide range as the Zebra.

“The Zebra photochromic lens is something very cool,” Plake said. “I’m really impressed with the great protection and versatility of the lens—especially during this time of year when the sun is at a low angle. It’s dark on the hill, but quite bright on the lift. It’s nice to have the lens floating back and forth and adjusting to the light,” he added.

Editors at Outside Magazine praised Julbo’s Revolution goggle with Zebra lens, calling it, “the most effective photochromic lens we’ve seen, capable of going from a milk-bottle day to bright sun.”

Julbo will introduce three new goggles with the Zebra lens into its range for Fall 2010.
