Wouldn't be great if we could all eat one salad per day and have guaranteed weight loss?
Unfortunately it just doesn't work that way. That is why "dieting" is a $40 billion per year industry. Magic pills, prepackaged foods, rapid weight loss supplements, and every possible kind of eating program... and yet not one of them seems to be the miraculous answer to all our weight loss problems.
Why? Because we are all different. Different genetic codes predispositioned for certain body types. Different backgrounds and upbringings all with their own stigmas and prejudices about fat and food. Different abilities to cope with stress and anxiety. Different ages... what works for a 25 year old woman's weight loss, probably won't work for a 45 year old woman due to hormone imbalances.
There is a delicate balance between your mind, body, and spirit. All too often we think (mind) we are fat (body) and are unworthy of happiness because we can't seem to lose weight to be the best we can be (spirit). This is a vicious cycle and no bookshelf full of diet books is going to do anything to help that.
First, you must really look at your history with food and fitness. Be honest about it. If you hate to sweat, admit it. If you would rather walk on fire than eat salmon... no one here will judge you. Make a list of all the foods that you do like. Veggies, fruit, meat, poultry, fish, fats, and be sure to include any fast food you eat or foods you already know are totally unhealthy for you, but you eat anyway.
Second, you must learn to love yourself exactly as you are. No, I'm not kidding. Walk to the bathroom, shed your clothes, and take a long look in the mirror. Instead of speaking or thinking harsh and hateful things that you would NEVER say to anyone else... be kind to YOU. Love your tummy, rub your thighs with a smile on your face, love that you have "junk" in your trunk! Be thankful that those parts of your body are functioning and you have the opportunity to make them better with just a little effort. You are beautiful just as you are... now we are going to make you healthy as well!
Third, you must be PRO-ACTIVE! Accountability is tough. That is why I have made a career out of weight loss and wellness coaching. It is easier to eat french fries when there is no one to answer to. Having to report what you eat, when you eat, and why you eat it along with logging in some cardio or weight training each day, will keep you on track for success.
Some people have a friend or family member in their life that can hold them accountable, but most of us have people who will start a program with us and are happy when we fall off the wagon because they can too. Let's face it, it is more fun to drink wine and eat pizza with a friend, than it is to measure out portions of salad dressing while squeezing lemon into your water.
To say that there is alot more to food psychology, weight loss, and wellness would be an understatement. Just remember that dieting NEVER works. Only real lifestyle changes can make the difference in losing and maintaining weight loss.
When you get serious about changing your life... give me a call. I am overjoyed to help.
