The Dubai Information Site announced today the completion of the Dubai Travel section of their website. The online portal had been working on this section quite extensively as a large portion of their website user community travels to Dubai and must know the latest information on transportation options to and within Dubai.
Wikipedia recently published a figure indicating that Dubai professionals spend nearly 2 hours on the road commuting to and from work. The government has spent a lot of money developing and beautifying the roads. But because Dubai's population has boomed overnight, the road development is not enough to keep up with the increased number of vehicles on the road.
Because there is a separate section on Flights to Dubai on the website, this section is mainly dedicated to ground and water transportation options within the City. It is no secret that Dubai roads are extremely busy like any major metropolitan area in the US. The entire Dubai transportation system is regulated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Most ground transportation options fall within the jurisdiction of this agency.
Despite the many transportation options in Dubai, there is really no reliable public transportation system. That said, this section discusses a few options to educate the reader. These options include the upcoming Dubai Metro system, tax cabs in Dubai, buses, trams and the abra (water taxi). The section also briefly discusses airlines and renting a car in Dubai.
