Jingobid is not just about grabbing a bargain! The competitive shopping platform that allows users to buy incredibly cheap electronics and other items, now also allows them to compete to save the planet.
Jingobid.com has teamed up with the Sepilok Orangutan Appeal, a UK based charity that raises money for the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in the Malaysian Sabah District of North Borneo. It was founded in 1964, to rehabilitate orphan Orangutans. The site is 43 sq km of protected land at the edge of Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve. Today around 60 to 80 Orangutans are living free in the reserve.
In the wild Orangutan babies stay with their mothers for up to six years while they are taught the skills they need to survive in the forest, the most important of which is climbing. At Sepilok a buddy system is used to replace a mother’s teaching. A younger ape will be paired up with an older one to learn the skills they need.
Jingobid users can now bid to adopt a baby orangutan. The winner gets goodies and pictures of the adopted baby as well as photos and updates on its progress. Jingobid guarantees the Appeal receives money for the adoption as well as any surplus profits from the auction. This way even those who did not win know that they have contributed!
Of course, Jingobid continues to offer a broad range of fantastic auctions with more traditional prizes such as LCD TVs, laptops, cameras, games consoles and many others!
Users in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau as well as in Europe and the US can participate and the list is constantly growing.
