Christmas gift shopping continues to undergo a radical transformation in the UK as shoppers embrace online shopping and stored value gift cards for their Christmas gift giving needs.
“At http://www.TheGiftCardCentre.co.uk, the UK’s first and only online gift card superstore, we’re seeing two big trends,” said Keith Brand, Director of Marketing. “First of course is the desire to shop online, from the comfort of the office or home. No more trudging about in the rain, battling crowds and rude sales clerks. And second is the desire to give and receive gift cards for Christmas as the gift of choice” continued Brand.
IMRG recently reported that 93% of UK shoppers plan on buying a gift online this Christmas, with 71% planning on doing half or more of their Christmas gift buying online in 2009. In addition, the Centre for Retail Research has reported that £8.9 billion is expected to be spent online this Christmas, an increase of 24% over Christmas season 2008. Finally, the UK Gift Card and Voucher Association reports that the UK gift card and voucher market grew 10.5% year-over-year in Q3 2009.
“When you put the online shopping and gift card trends together, 2009 is shaping up to be the year UK Christmas shoppers found a truly better way to buy the perfect present” concluded Brand.
UK-based TheGiftCardCentre.co.uk is the first website dedicated to selling gift cards online. Gift cards and gift vouchers in the UK represent over £3 billion in turnover, and TheGiftCardCentre is the UK’s online gift card and e-gift voucher superstore
