A Christmas Carol may be one of the most famous and best-loved Christmas-themed novels, but Bookarmy are not feeling at all Scroogey this December. To celebrate their first Christmas the website has created an online advent calendar, so that for every day in the run-up to the 25th you can open a window onto a world of recommendations, events, and other literary treats.
The 1st of December presented an array of bookie events, including a reading of A Christmas Carol from the library of the Charles Dickens Museum. December 2nd provides a clip from the film, A Christmas Carol (be warned: you’ll want to settle down and watch the rest with a mince pie and mulled wine), and behind the 3rd window lies a set of hilarious letters to Father Christmas from some famous literary figures. The coming weeks will to continue to provide us with equally entertaining and interesting ideas – ideal to keep us occupied, so that we don’t go looking for where our loved ones have hidden our presents...
As if that’s not enough, Bookarmy are extending their goodwill to all things green – and we don’t just mean the Christmas tree. The website offers some great ideas for a ‘make your own’ Christmas, recommending the best books to help you have a greener and more recycled Yuletide – it is, after all, the season for giving, and receiving, and giving back, and receiving again... Try giving Vogue Sewing to a budding fashionista so they can make their own couture.
Have a very literary Christmas!
