According to Rodolfo Valentin, top hairstylist of NYC, Hair color and chlorine do not cooperate with each other.
Summer sports and swimmers are asking what advice they can gave about their hair and related sports as well. For all of you whose preferred sport is beach and swim, especially if you do it a lot, you must take a few important precautions.
Despite what most people think, pure water is not at all harmful to your hair. But another matter is the chlorinated swimming pool water, it is really terrible!. Scientists have found that chlorine can soften the hair’s protective outer shell, which is its scaly cuticle. When it is exposed to chlorine, the cuticle has been seen to have melted or worn away.  An electron microscope can show it. If you expose your hair to this chemical, it only takes a few hours to commit its damage.
Rodolfo Valentin recommends to his clients to protect their hair against chlorine discoloration and dryness, there is in the market an extra light conditioner that reduces swelling because it contains low acid ph. Other with vitamin E sunscreen and melanin condition the hair and it shines and guards against premature fading and discoloration.
Rodolfo Valentin also remarks that not only chlorine can affect your hair color, other components, as minerals like copper in  pool water, will be very  harmful for the blondes , it can turn your hair light green!.
As a  quick solution for that Rodolfo Valentin proposes to rinse your hair with fresh water from the hose as soon as you come out of the pool, and every time after swim.  Then, use a shampoo which has been designed to take away from your hair all the mineral buildup, and always rinse your hair together with a strong conditioner to avoid dryness.
Rodolfo Valentin also warn that to prevent “tangles” a common problem for the long haired swimmers who do not like to protect their hair when swimming, is to keep hair under control by wearing it pinned up or in a braid.
Rodolfo Valentin says that another option is to wear a water-tight cap but it is not recommended if you like to keep your hairdo, but if it is your favorite choice, the only thing that I can tell you is to keep your head out of the water when swimming, and use a sunscreen spray for hair.
And for last advice Rodolfo Valentin cautions that because your hair color will be the most affected, use those refresher color conditioners to help to keep your hair color looking and feeling its best between color services, to make sure you can enjoy your hair summer.
