PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 02, 2009 -
New York, NY—Global Goods Partners (GGP), a NYC-based nonprofit organization, is giving New York shoppers a gift of their own this holiday season. On Thursday, December 17, GGP will host a one-day marketplace at the Urban Zen Center at Stephan Weiss Studio in the West Village. The marketplace will showcase handcrafted, fair trade gifts, accessories and home items from more than 20 countries around the world. All purchases benefit the women artisans who made the items, their families and their communities.

“The purchases help women create a sustainable livelihood”, says GGP co-founder Joan Shifrin. GGP gift items combine traditional skills with functionality and contemporary design. The public is invited to explore GGP’s rich assortment of products ranging from hand-woven, elegant alpaca scarves from Bolivia to colorful hand-coiled baskets from Darfur. Also available is a wide selection of jewelry, bags, home décor items, toys and pet accessories. Admission to the marketplace is free and open to the public. The hours of the event are noon to 8pm on Thursday, December 17 at 711 Greenwich Street, between W 10th St. and Charles St. NYC.

GGP’s founders, Catherine Shimony and Joan Shifrin, along with women leaders representing GGP’s global partners, will participate in a panel discussion from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the day of the sale.
