Skin has already begun to age by the age of 25. Sooner or later, this will become apparent in the form of wrinkles. The third skin layer (the dermis) contains tear-proof collagen fibres and elastic fibres. Furthermore, many blood and lymph vessels are woven into the dermis. The skin glands mainly lie within the dermis, and most of the skin's sensory receptors are also to be found in this layer. The so-called papillary dermis lies between the epidermis (outer skin layer) and the dermis, and is peg or wave-shaped. The many invaginations of the dermis into the lower layers of the epidermis create a strong mechanical link between the two layers, and a simplified delivery of nutrients to the epidermis.
