Los Angeles, CA – Patricia L. Gerbarg, MD, internationally renowned integrative mental health expert and co-author of How to Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton, 2009), is cited by Dr. Mehmet Oz in the December 2009 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, for her treatment approach to relieve post-Lyme disease symptoms.

Following antibiotic treatment, many people are left with post-Lyme symptoms that include fatigue, fibromyalgia, weakness, cognitive deficits, memory loss, and other neurological challenges.

Dr. Oz, Vice Chair and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, New York and host of the Dr. Oz Show writes, “Patricia Gerbarg, MD, is the coauthor of How to Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care as well as a former Lyme patient.  What she found, and what I support is that certain supplements strengthen the body’s ability to repair itself from the long-term problems associated with CLD (Chronic Lyme Disease).   Taking vitamin B12, coenzyme Q10, chromium, folate, omega-3 fatty acids, and herbs such as Rhodiola rosea, can improve energy and help with cellular repair – all key in recovering from conditions that can be as resistant as Lyme disease.”

Dr. Gerbarg’s protocol for optimal recovery from Lyme disease includes improving brain cell functions, mitochondrial energy production, and cellular repair mechanisms.  Her treatments for Lyme disease are included in the award winning book she co-authored with Drs. Richard P. Brown and Dr. Philip Muskin.

Dr. Gerbarg is a clinically trained psychiatrist and Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College.  She graduated from Harvard Medical School.  In addition to her clinical practice in Kingston, NY, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices and integrative treatments for recovery from mass disasters such at the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the southeast Asian tsunami, and military personnel.  She and her co-author husband, psychiatrist Richard P. Brown, MD, provide health information and resources at HaveAHealthyMind.com.

For more information on Lyme disease the HaveAHealthyMind.com web site contains a link to Dr. Gerbarg's radio interview on Advanced Living Radio with Kenneth Lesser entitled  "Recovering from Lyme Disease".   The interview discusses Lyme disease prevention, diagnosis, and, recovery from persistent post-lyme Symptoms.  Other resources are available at LymeNet.org, ilads.org, and  the LymeDiseaseAssociation.org.  A documentary film, Under Our Skin, from Open Eyes Pictures, produced in 2008, reports on “this emerging epidemic of staggering proportions.”
