Over 100,000 Americans, are currently waiting for a transplant. Thousands more benefit each year from corneal and tissue transplants that improve the quality of their lives. Each year, an estimated 20,000 organs and 900,000 tissues and corneas are transplanted in the United States, and yet an estimated 18 people die each day waiting for a transplant. Medical advances have led to a near universal rate of transplant success, but with that success there has been a growing demand. Currently, there is one organ transplanted for every four patients on the waiting list.
