Learn Spanish on Facebook!
PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 01, 2009 -
Santa Monica & Buenos Aires, Argentina, 22th November 2009: Learn Spanish on Facebook, right there on your News Feed, between your college roommate's Farmville update and your ex-boyfriend's not-quite-ambiguous-enough morning status:

Bueno, entonces... the Phrase of the Day is: "media naranja." Literally, 'half
orange,' but the actual meaning is a lot more romantic - it means 'soulmate'.
Example: Estoy en busca de mi media naranja. (I am looking for my soulmate.)
Sigh. Aren't we all...

And all of a sudden, Facebook, the addictive time-waster now 300+ million users strong, is now teaching you Spanish along with alerting you to the breakfast habits of distant relatives.

Just three weeks ago General Linguistics unleashed their flagship program Bueno, entonces… learn Spanish on their Facebook fan page, and already more than 3,500 fans" are learning Spanish through a series of daily tips, videos, cultural tidbits, and links to minilessons on their blog.

"We started our fan page to let people know about our iPhone App release issues,"(Apple Corp has rejected several Bueno, entonces… iPhone Apps for "inappropriate content") says Corinne Allen, the producer of the program, "but the response to the videos was so great that we decided to start using Facebook as a way to reach out to people that are interested in learning or improving their Spanish, but not ready to buy yet." The fan page can be found at: http://www.facebook.com/buenoentonces

The informal Facebook is the perfect medium for the company to communicate its unique (and unorthodox) method and personality. While most other language learning company pages are demure - market-leader Rosetta Stone uses it's page to defend itself against boycott threats by customers unhappy about the company's decision to advertise with controversial Fox News personalities Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity - Bueno, entonces… spices up it's daily Facebook offering with common Spanish insults, compliments, and slang, as well as some of the more salacious clips from the 30-class animated video program, which it also sells directly from the page.

"So far the response has been really promising," says Allen, "we're getting a bunch of new fans every day, and have gotten some sales out of it."

The company, which has offices in Santa Monica and Buenos Aires, Argentina, has just hired a full-time social marketing director to manage the Facebook, Twitter, and blogging tasks, with the idea of catching up with potential customers and students and giving them a reason to connect with the company well before they make a decision about which language learning product to buy.

As they say on their Facebook page urging visitors to become a fan and learn Spanish:
"You already spend 10 hours a day here, why not make it productive?"

ABOUT GENERAL LINGUISTICS LLC:

General Linguistics was founded in 2008 by a group of professional linguists, teachers and students frustrated with boring, old-fashioned audiobooks and software drills that are dated, expensive, and worst of all, boring. Our mission is to develop language learning programs that people will use and enjoy.

Instead of being a torturous chore - learning a language should be fun and engaging! Our first effort, Bueno, entonces... is a new way to learn Spanish. The series of 30 video lasses include all the grammar and vocabulary you'll get with traditional programs covering Spanish Levels I & II, but with a fun, engaging style. It is comprehensive and challenging, but edgy and addictive at the same time. You'll always be looking forward to the next lesson.

Bueno, entonces... is perfect for travelers to Spanish-speaking countries – made especially for use with any video iPods, iPhone, Blackberry, or other portable video device, as well as both MAC and PC computers. It is available for sale on the iTunes AppStore, Amazon.com, and http://www.generallinguistics.com/learn-spanish. It is priced at $147 for instant download, $199 for the 6-DVD set, or $2.99 per class for the iPhone.
