London - Pump Aid (www.pumpaid.org)
Pump Aid works mainly in Malawi and Zimbabwe to establish sustainable supplies of clean water and safer sanitation provisions. The organisation specialises in training rural communities to build sustainable water pumps, called Elephant Pumps and sanitation solutions, called Elephant Toilets, both of which can be maintained by the communities without any assistance.
Haulmont Technology will custom build a monitoring and evaluation system for Pump Aid to replace the current paper-based reporting procedure. The new solution will save time by streamlining data inputting and create an online database for Pump Aid to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of its projects. The system will also provide improved reporting for donors and stakeholders in the charity.
Kathryn Llewellyn, International Director for Pump Aid said;
“Effective monitoring and evaluation of charity projects is absolutely vital to ensure that donations are used effectively, but it’s an area that some charities have been slow to address. This new M&E system will help us reduce the workload on our local teams in Southern Africa and deliver huge benefits in terms of our ability to monitor and report on our projects. We expect to improve operational effectiveness and also to provide better reports for our donors on the impact of their contributions.”
Alistair Laycock, Director for Haulmont Technology, added;
“Pump Aid selected Haulmont for this project because we recognised that Pump Aid needed a simple to use solution to a complex challenge. We focussed upon providing the most cost effective solution to Pump Aid’s needs, rather than suggesting technology that was unnecessarily complex or difficult to implement. During development, our focus will be on creating a solution in partnership with the teams on the ground in Africa, to ensure stakeholder buy-in at all levels and provide a sophisticated and very flexible IT system, with a straightforward user interface.”
Haulmont Technology will build the system using its proprietary CUBA Platform. CUBA combines the best aspects of several business-proven open source technologies to enable fast development and without expensive license fees. The Pump Aid solution will primarily support the Elephant Pump project but will be flexible enough to support future projects across Sanitation, Nutrition and Reforestation.
