Charitable Trust
As part of the local fight against drug abuse amongst young people, The Bonita Trust sponsored a Mini Olympiad in Gibraltar, organised by the Royal Gibraltar Police, in partnership with the Government of Gibraltar.
This event attracted approximately 800 children aged between 10-14 years,. All participants were given information to take home about the dangers of drug abuse, and had the opportunity to participate in drugs education activities run by Gibraltar 's local charities, which had set up stalls at the event.
The theme for the day’s activities was :
Do drugs control your life? Your life, your community; no room for drugs”.
Speaking on behalf of The Bonita Trust, Ruth Parasol DeLeon commented, “Bonita was keen to support this health and educational initiative in Gibraltar, where the abuse of drugs affects both our children and our community..”
Minister Edwin Reyes, the Gibraltar Government Minister for Heritage, Culture, Youth & Sport, remarked, “It was a wonderful day, allowing everyone to participate in sporting events in a friendly manner and, above all, it helped us to reinforce the message that we don’t need drugs in order to enjoy sports and have fun”.
It was also an opportunity for members of the Police Force and for some members of the older generation, from the Petanque Association and the Veteran’s Football Association who took part in the event, to mix with the children on an informal basis and from their wealth of experience offer guidance to the young people.
