For the treatment of baldness (hair loss), Dr. Umar uses a group of techniques to perform hair transplantion called Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET). This is his version of the hair restoration procedure commonly referred to as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). SFET enables Dr. Umar to utilize donor hair outside the confines of widely available traditional methods. Thus hair from the beard and body areas are also used. This is especially useful in severely bald individuals or those whose head donor supply has been decimated by antiquated techniques. Dr. Umar uses body hair to head transplantation also called body hair transplantation (BHT) in combination with beard and head hair to restore a severely bald individual. Dr. Umar uses BHT in patients that have a relative or absolute lack of traditional donor sources (back of the head). For a visual example of this procedure, please watch this video:

DermHair Clinic in Los Angeles offers only the least invasive type of hair transplantation. Our procedure is completely knife -free and utilizes micro surgical techniques to harvest each hair unit one at a time in a process called "Single Follicle Extraction & Transfer” (SFET). SFET is a more advanced form of the procedure largely refered to as "Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)". Dr Umar performs Body Hair Transplantation using a SFET or the Umar procedure. SFET is his version of the procedure commonly referred to as follicular unit extraction ( FUE ). These hair units are then transplanted one at a time in the most natural fashion.

There are several advantages of FUE and Umar’s addition with SFET. With moderately sized procedures, it leaves virtually imperceptible punctuate scars in the donor area once healed. During the post operative period, there are only a few limitations placed upon the patient for the first week or so. Patients rarely report any donor area pain from the excision area. The donor area can be washed as vigorously as necessary to obtain a clean wound. Hair grows out from the donor area fairly quickly so by one week after an FUE procedure most donor wounds will be covered by a short beard-like growth of the hair making the donor excisions nearly undetectable. Our technique is so minimally invasive to the extent that the sign immediately after the surgery is tiny wounds that typically heal up within days. Dr Umar is a fellowship trained cosmetic surgeon, and Certified dually by the American Boards of Dermatology and Internal Medicine. He can be reached at his Los Angeles clinic in Redondo Beach at (310)318-1500, or please visit the Derm Hair Clinic website:
