NEW YORK, NY- “Some of us see shame as a stepping stone towards betterment while others fall into despondency. There is another way through shame: make art. Experience art. Art enables us to see and feel more,” says artist and curator Walker Fee. This is the belief behind the exhibition The Double Shame; an exhibition devoted to the idea of art providing meaning in the midst of distress. The spectacular multi-media event opens at U Gallery on December 12th, 2009.
“In this exhibition the theme of shame is dramatically expressed through painting, poetry and performance,”
Exhibition curator Walker Fee is an aspiring young artist from Queens. He has both exhibited and curated in the East Village since 2005, and has always prioritized the inclusion and artistic edification of the community at his events by encouraging public participation, as well as the sale of artworks at extremely affordable prices. Many paintings in The Double Shame will be on sale for less than $100, and none for more than $1,000.
The Double Shame is the external product of an internal journey through struggles, doubts, and desires. It invites you to travel through the exhibition to meet your own thoughts, to confront your own shame, and to use the imagination we all possess to facilitate hope, healing and growth in each of our lives.
