The British Association of Communicators in Business (CiB) - soon to become the Institute of Internal Communication - has recognized the best of the best from a high-quality field with the announcement of its Communicator of the Year Awards 2009.
These awards break new ground by assessing levels of professional attainment, dedication and consistent achievement in an individual or team rather than focusing entirely on a specific output such as a publication, project or campaign.
This year’s winners are:
Best editor (print) - Malcolm Tait, Think Publishing (for Wildabout for the Zoological Society)
Best editor (online) - Jason Dowty, Sequel (for news O2 for O2)
Best writer (print and online) - Cliff Caswell (for Soldier)
Best designer (print) - Jenny Hoyle, Words and Pictures (for Open for T-Mobile and Dress for Success for George)
Best designer (online) - Joe Gardiner, Wardour (for Vision for Aon and Landscape for the Landscape Institute)
Best agency team - The Barclays Globe magazine team, Wardour
Best in-house team (corporate) - Makro Cash and Carry internal communication team
Best in-house team - The Surrey Police internal communication team

Best freelance - Louise Birkett (for work on National Grid’s Company News Channel)
Best newcomer to the industry - Sarah Hodges, Essex County Council
Best communications manager - Cathryn Halton of G4S Secure Solutions (UK)
Winners received their awards at a prestigious industry luncheon at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, London on 27 November.
Awards Chairman Dave Morris said: “Congratulations to all our winners on their outstanding achievements. Internal communications is as much about the people as it is the products, and I’m delighted this award programme is celebrating the personalities which drive organizational communication.”
