What happening?
Both teams are 4-6 and trying to stay on playoff life support. The floundering Jets have six teams ahead of them in the AFC wild-card pecking order, while the Panthers have four teams ahead of them in the NFC. For the Jets, this is the first of three consecutive games against teams with losing records. The Panthers play Tampa Bay next week and then have a hard closing schedule, including New England, Minnesota and New Orleans. �
Panthers pass rusher extraordinaire Julius Peppers has no sacks in his past three games after garnering six in the previous four. The problem appears to be an injured, wrapped right hand that could be broken, although coach John Fox will not admit it. Jets QB Mark Sanchez is a turnover waiting to happen and the Peppers of old could speed up that process. �
Rookie Jets coach Rex Ryan admitted after the loss to New England that he has concentrated too much on the defense and this will start paying more attention to the offensive side of the ball, specifically with an eye toward helping Sanchez correct his turnover woes. It will be interesting to see how much different the game-day operation is with Ryan taking more of a CEO-type role.
