The last time the Miami Dolphins met the Buffalo Bills, they were 0-3 and had to start second-year quarterback Chad Henne after losing quarterback Chad Pennington to a season-ending shoulder injury.
But a 38-10 rout at home was the first of a season-saving five victories in the next seven games for the Dolphins, who are hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive when they visit the Bills Sunday.
At 3-7, the Bills are all but assured of missing the playoffs for the 10th consecutive year. But they would love nothing better than to play the role of spoiler against their AFC East rivals.
This will be the first home appearance for interim head coach Perry Fewell, who replaced the fired Dick Jauron last week. The Bills responded under Fewell's guidance with an inspired, but losing performance at Jacksonville last week.
All eyes will be on Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens, who finally had a break-out game against the Jaguars with a season-high nine catches for 197 yards, including a team-record 98-yard touchdown. Whether quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick can continue to get Owens the ball playing behind a makeshift offensive line will be a major story line.
For Miami, Ricky Williams comes into the game as the Dolphins' featured running back now that Ronnie Brown is done for the year with a foot injury. If Williams' last game (119 yards and three touchdowns) is any indication, he'll be a difficult test for a Bills run defense that showed marked improvement a week ago.
