DTLR, Caron Butler take over Coolidge High School for Annual Basketball Classic

Classic offers fundraising opportunity for participating schools, Limited number of Wizards game tickets available to those who bring canned goods to game

Nov. 27, 2009 - PRLog -- For the third year in a row DTLR is partnering with Washington Wizards forward Caron Butler to on the annual Caron Butler High School Basketball Classic. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, December 9 at Coolidge High School (6315 5th Street, NW). DTLR is the sole sponsor of the event.

“I love to support this event,” said Butler.  “It’s an exciting night of high school basketball and it is very competitive.  More importantly it is for a great cause to help these high schools raise money for their athletic programs that help produce champions for the future.”

This year’s line-up features four DC-area schools, Montrose Christian School, Roosevelt Senior High School, Dematha Catholic School and Coolidge Senior High School.  

Tip off for the first game between Montrose Christian School and Roosevelt Senior High School begins at 6 p.m.

The second game between Coolidge Senior High School and Dematha Catholic School is a rematch from the first year Classic.  Dematha took the trophy home.  Let’s see if they can hold Coolidge off again this year.  This matchup begins at 8 p.m.

DC’s most popular Go-Go Band, TCB, will perform during half-time at both games and the Young Boss - DJ Alizay of WKYS-FM will perform throughout the night.
 
The Classic offers more than just great performances, basketball match-ups, bragging rights for the winners. Participating schools have an opportunity to raise money for their athletic programs. “We are creating a fundraising opportunity for each school to raise a potential $1,250 by selling 250 tickets at $5 each to their student body,” said Sherri Goodall, Community Outreach Manager for DTLR. “Each school will use the money raised from ticket sales to support their respective athletic program.”  Goodall says tickets will be available at the door.  The cost is $10.

Additionally, Caron Butler has partnered with Bread for the City to hold a canned food drive. Attendees who bring canned goods to the event will receive a certificate for tickets to a future Wizards games.  These certificates are available while supplies last.
