The current renovations taking place on Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas National Park are not affecting the 45-minute historic guided tour of the fort offered to guests traveling to the national park on the two ferries provided by the Dry Tortugas Information Center. As part of a renovation project that will last several years, the 150-year-old fort is being renovated for stabilization purposes.

People traveling to the unique and remote Dry Tortugas National Park typically get to the park by means of one of two ferries that make daily trips out to the park. Each ferry provides park visitors with breakfast, lunch, snorkeling gear, and a guided tour of Fort Jefferson ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ) that explains the fascinating history of the Dry Tortugas and the Civil War-era fort.

The Dry Tortugas Information Center reports that a few people booking trips for the next few months have expressed concern over the construction and renovation projects taking place in Fort Jefferson. They also report, however, that the guided tour of the fort is not at all affected by the renovation projects. Each year, renovations take place in one specific part of the fort, leaving the majority of the massive fort and Garden Key open to visitors and tourists.

"Fort Jefferson is huge, so most of the reservation projects have very little effect on our guided tour or on most of the self-guided tour the national park provides," says Dry Tortugas Reservations agent Leslie Henley.

Renovation and reservation projects for the fort take place from December through June. While this is considered Key West's high season, this is also the time of year that is completely free of the threat of hurricanes.

Aside from the guided tour of Fort Jefferson, visitors to the Dry Tortugas can also enjoy one of the best Key West snorkeling ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ) experience on the coral reef gardens that are located just a few yards from the beach on Garden Key.

People interested in seeing the Dry Tortugas ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ) and Fort Jefferson can find more information and make reservations on DryTortugasInfo.com or by calling 1-877-243-2378.
