Below is a reprinted post, titled Ode to a Classic Crooner on a Widescreen HDTV, from the Widescreen HDTV blog, excluding the video attached to the actual post, to show off an example of what is being said within this social network:
We are getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving. While I won’t be lucky enough to go home for the holidays because of work that extra time to make some cash is going to shopping for the holidays. It is always easy shop for my brother because he likes any sort of video game or accessory for his 1080p HDTV plasma screen. My mom, like all women, loves to be treated to a day at the spa. My dad is the hard one to buy for. Normally I stick to getting him a bestselling book, restaurant gift certificate or classic movie but I want to surprise him with something different this year. He is a huge fan of the classic movies and music.
Growing up he always rented the black and white versions of Twilight Zone or other old films from his childhood. It was a nice history lesson on what times used to be like when he was a kid. This holiday season I am looking for an ode to those classics he brought us up on.
The last time I was up at home, visiting, I woke up to the crooning sounds of Bing Crosby. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and remember my dad telling me that Bing was born nearby in Tacoma, Washington. He died before I was born but recordings like the one heard in the video above keep his talents ingrained in the media forever. This song is called Now You Have Jazz featuring the great Louis Armstrong.
It was perfect when I found Bing Crosby –Swingin’ with Bing: Lost R at River City Electronics for a slamming deal. Personally, I like some of the jazzier sounding Bing and of course his Christmas classics but my dad likes all his stuff. This DVD includes three discs of over 70 songs by the man himself. From 21st century tech seen with the many widescreen HDTVs to an ode to a simpler time of black and white televisions and crooning, there is something for anyone at this store.
