CHANDLER, Ariz. — A bit of sawdust, the scent of new carpeting and the sound of power drills are filling the air at Chandler Center for the Arts this week, giving the 20-year facility much to be thankful for as its second phase of renovations are underway. The installation of new carpeting in the Centers’ 350-seat Bogle Theater and 250-seat Recital Hall began Monday, as did the reinstallation of refurbished seats in both these theaters.
“Stepping into our grand foyer, you can see the Center looks completely different already. Everything is getting a facelift, and we’re excited to reveal our fresh look upon the completion of this project in Spring 2010,” said Katrina Pappas, general manager. “We’re so grateful for the continued support of the community during our 20-year history and look forward to serving the public well into the next 20 years and beyond.”
The voter-approved $6.7 million renovations include the replacement of the Center’s rigging systems, ADA improvements, air conditioning upgrades, refurbished seats, lobby floor remediation, installation of handrails in the auditorium and other facility-related refurbishments.
While the mainstage is closed for the 2009-2010 season, the Center is still offering performances in the Bogle Theater, foyer and west lawn areas. The Center’s next event is Zoppè, An Italian Family Circus Since 1842, running Dec. 26 through Jan. 3, 2010 on the west lawn.
