NEW YORK ─ Application Security, Inc., the leading provider of database security, risk and compliance solutions for the enterprise, today announced its second annual Database Security Video SMACKDOWN will be judged by a celebrity panel of IT security leaders. The panel for this year’s contest includes Rich Mogull and Adrian Lane of Securosis; Andrew Jaquith of Forrester Research; Trent Henry of Burton Group; and Jon Oltsik of Enterprise Strategy Group.
Building on last year’s success, the company’s short film contest will award a first place prize of up to $2,000, and the winner will be featured on the Application Security, Inc. Web site, Facebook page and YouTube Channel. The public will be able to view all entries on the YouTube Video SMACKDOWN Web site.
“It’s a great thing when you have the most recognizable names in IT Security taking part in an activity like this,” said Thom VanHorn, vice president, global marketing, Application Security, Inc. “Although this contest is designed to be entertaining, its intent is to shine a light on a real and increasing problem. Organizations are still allowing compromises at the database level and we hope this contest underscores the importance of database security, risk, and compliance and motivates organizations to take action.”

Teams or individuals are encouraged to create an original short video of no more than two minutes that mentions the importance of database security. While the film does not need to be specifically about database security, it must mention the importance of database security, risk, or compliance at some point in the film. The target audience for the videos is the general public and the primary goal is to entertain. Dozens of short films were submitted in the 2008 Video SMACKDOWN. The winning entry, “Database Security is Important,” and other finalists can be viewed on the Video SMACKDOWN Web site.
