American wine writer and educator Stephen Reiss, Ph.D. joins the team at Domaine Jean Bousquet winery in Mendoza, Argentina. Dr. Reiss will be creating a hospitality and education program for this leading producer of organic wines in Argentina.
In the 1990s Jean Bousquet left France for the promise and potential of a new wine region in Argentina. Settling at 4000 feet in Tupungato at the foot of the Andes just an hour south of Mendoza, Jean began creating high quality organic wines that would have been all but impossible in France. Fast forward a dozen years and onto the scene appears the American Stephen Reiss, Certified Wine Educator and author.
When Stephen Reiss visited Tupungato and met Jean, he knew he had found the wine and opportunity he had been searching for. “I experienced the terroir under my feet and in the wines, and I knew that I had found that elusive perfect combination of microclimate, grape variety and wine maker” said Stephen in a recent interview.
“Stephen adds his rare talent of communicating about wine to our team” stated Jean Bousquet in the same interview. “He will be able to help our guests enjoy their visits all the more, by simplifying what for many is a complex process.”
The first step of the new hospitality program is the creation of a place to taste wines amid the beauty of the barrel room. Recognizing the importance of food to wine, the tasting room will offer tapas and sandwiches with an International flavor. Keeping with the general theme, set in the vineyard are several apartments which have been appointed with “rustic luxury.”
La Sala as the tasting room is known, will be open from 10 – 6 for direct sales of wine, and lunch and tours are available by reservation.
Domaine Jean Bousquet is a family run boutique winery that is not only totally organic, but produces some of the highest quality wines in Argentina, an accolade award them by the foreign press. Founded in 1997 by third generation French winemaker Jean Bousquet, the Domaine has enjoyed unparalleled growth as demand for their wines continues to exceed their production.
