Levtran Enterprises has a new name – DTLR, Inc. The change becomes official January 1, 2010, allowing the Baltimore-based independent retail chain to secure its brand in the marketplace and position it for future growth.
“Changing our name to DTLR, Inc. helps keep our name in front of people,” said Company President Glenn Gaynor. “It is just a continuation of the brand-building work we began last year when we officially changed the names of our Baltimore and Washington, DC stores from Downtown Locker Room to DTLR.”
DTLR was founded in 1983 by Rick Levin and Tony Travas under the name Athletic Attic. The first store located in the Towson Town Center Mall and carried sports apparel and footwear for athletes predominately in the urban marketplace. The success of the Athletic Attic led Levin and Travas to open other stores under the name Downtown Locker Room and Athletic Warehouse Outlet.
In 1994, Downtown Locker Room recognized the changing atmosphere of fashion in the urban community and retooled their focus to a broader line of urban apparel and footwear, and became a pioneering distributor of such lines as Coogi, Sean John, Pelle Pelle, and many others. Today, the independent retail chain is a leader in urban contemporary fashions. The company has evolved from a limited line sport shop to today’s leader in urban contemporary fashions.
