William was invited by the Polish Tourist Board this week to contribute at a forum with key leadership experts from around Europe to discuss how countries can set goals whilst taking on board different cultural leadership perspectives. William says “it was an honour to be asked, goal setting is crucial in effective leadership and I am thrilled to be playing a role”.
Ethical and successful leadership has been at the core of William Montgomery’s life since young manhood. Brought up in a children’s home William left school in 1978 with no academic qualifications. He joined the Navy as a sea cadet and rose through the ranks to Lieutenant Commander in the shortest time possible and is still the youngest person to ever become an officer. William has had a thriving career, and believes “this is fully esteemed to having clear goals”.
William states “there is a very strong link between leadership and goal setting”, and believes that leaders are able to express themselves wholly, “they know what they want, why they want it and how to communicate what they want to others, in order to gain their support”.
Those who recognise their goals at the offset are able to maintain concise actions leading themselves and others directly toward these objectives. Leadership and goal setting work in hand in hand; leaders need to gain the trust of people who will need to be sold on their vision. It would be very difficult to lead others towards their vision of the future if they are yet to identify what it is. William believes “everyone should have goals, whether business or personal; determining these enables you to truly excel; now is the time to create your action plan for the New Year and unleash the leader within”
Local entrepreneur Kerry Hale set up her social networking site in November last year. After attending one of William’s workshops in June, she immediately set about launching her second website, which she unleashed just 3 months later. It is already a growing business and she is looking forward to attending the next workshop where she hopes to set many more goals for 2010. Kerry says “Mastering Leadership was an excellent event, I came away with new contacts, fresh ideas and totally inspired”
