Exclusively made for the royal court in the 13th -18th centuries, Benjarong porcelain has extended its use to aristocrats and wealthy merchants, and now is available to today’s discerning global consumer for use as formal ware. Although the early designs were limited to colours used for religious subjects, eventually a new design style grew, known as “Lai Nam Thong’, which used gold as its distinctive main colour. During the reign of King Rama II (1809 – 1851), Lai Nam Thong wares with gorgeous gold accents were very popular. Today, the original Benjarong wares are displayed at the Thai National Museum in Bangkok. And now, exclusively at Interiors in Balance
Initially Roza Seward, Manager of Interiors in Balance, came across this stunning porcelain at a friend's house in Kuwait, who had indicated at the time that the art was almost lost. To her delight she encountered it again during her trip in Thailand. She was so excited to witness yet again the unsurpassed beauty of Benjarong, that right there and then she decided to bring this ancient art to Calgary. Calgary is quickly becoming a global marketplace and what a better time to make it even more diverse in the choices of all things fine.
Small, delicate serving ware and decorative items to large vases and lamps to complete dinner sets are available. Custom designs in custom colours can be ordered as well. Beautiful home interior accessories such as silks and textiles that compliment the stunning Benjarong porcelain are also available.
A Grand Opening celebration will be held on Friday November 27, with a special corporate viewing and information session on Saturday, November 28 between the hours of 5 pm to 8 pm. Food and drinks will be available in a relaxed atmosphere to take in and talk about Benjarong and how it is made.
