In August 2009, Bedford-based photographer Michelle Payne-Gale launched a year-long ‘portrait-
Michelle, who is the owner of Essence Photography and Essence Artwork, plans to photograph a different local business owner each week, for display in an online gallery.
Featuring businesses covering everything from web design to business coaching, and yoga teaching to interior design, Michelle’s intention is to showcase her modern style of photography, while bringing some extra attention to the businesses modelling for her.
“I wanted to create portraits in styles that the business owners wouldn’t immediately consider for their businesses. It’s steering away from the typical - I’m asking everyone to be a little adventurous. So far, everyone’s having fun!”
Michelle’s only requirement of her models is that they bring a prop or choose a shoot location that represents what they do for a living.
Promoting each ‘face’ via her website, marketing e-mails and social networking sites like as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, Michelle’s project is attracting more attention and followers each week, as well as lots of creative input from her future subjects.
“Without giving away too much, I’ve had prop and shoot suggestions from understated and simple, through to fun and outlandish! I actually can’t wait to see some of the portraits myself!”
