While it has been a long tradition for Youth for Human Rights to celebrate the International Children’s Day internationally, this year’s edition was given attention as well.
Proclaimed and promoted by UN’s Unesco, the purpose of this day is to bring the Rights of Children under the attention of all.
Reason enough for the Human Rights Department of the Church of Scientology of Arlöv, Sweden, to organize an evening in its Congress Center, together with Youth for Human Rights Sweden, to validate those rights with an evening especially for children, full of fun, entertainment and validation.
Many nationalities were present. By way of example, kids attended whose parents hailed from as far as Nigeria, Chechnya, Pakistan but also more closely, from Denmark and Sweden.
Upon arriving the children were offered drinks and snacks and they could make drawings. The program itself consisted of live music with songs by local musician Christer Rundqvist and a sparkling performance by clown Christelle. This was followed by the showing of a selection of public service announcements which highlight articles of the Universal Declaration, followed by a showing of the award-winning music video “United” about a boy who demonstrates tolerance to some bullies, despite the fact that they gave him a hard time at first.
“Children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. It is therefore vital that an understanding and knowingness of their individual rights is achieved if we want to survive with today’s society. Or in the words of humanitarian and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard: human rights are to be made a fact, not an idealistic dream. Together with other organizations are we working at an international level on achieving this educational goal”, said Ad Vulto, head of the Human Rights Department of the Church of Scientology of Arlöv, Sweden.
“The children really liked this evening. The reason for it was that they were acknowledged for what they are and for having an equal right to others. We have the task, as grown-ups, to understand our responsibility in educating our children on the Universal Declaration and to set an example ourselves,” said Ad Vulto.
